Afternoon 1: Transfer to the Glass Cabañas
The trek begins at 3 p.m. when you’ll meet your team and set off in a private van for a 3.5-hour drive to the Glass Cabañas in Soraypampa, located at 3,800 meters above sea level. Upon arrival, enjoy the stunning sunset over glacier peaks and get settled into your rooms. Afterward, you’ll have dinner and hot drinks, followed by an introduction to the group. The clear night skies offer exceptional stargazing. No hiking today.
Day 1: Soraypampa – Humantay Lagoon – Salkantay Pass – Wayracmachay
Wake up early for a hearty breakfast and begin the longest day of the trek. The first part of the hike includes a 1.5-hour uphill trek to Humantay Lake, where you’ll enjoy stunning views. Next, trek for 3 hours to Soyroccocha for lunch before continuing for 1 hour to Salkantay Pass (4,650 meters), the highest point of the trek. After a rest, the day ends with a 3-hour descent to Wayracmachay, where you’ll enjoy a warm drink, dinner, and stargazing.
Day 2: Wayracmachay – Chaullay – Ccollpapampa – Loreta (Hobbit House)
Start with a hot drink and breakfast before hiking downhill for 4 hours to Ccollpapampa, where you’ll see a change in climate and flora. After lunch, continue downhill to the Hobbit Houses, where you can relax with a hot shower, jacuzzi, and enjoy the views. Dinner will be served with a view of the Salkantay River.
Day 3: Loreta – La Playa Sahuayaku – Lucmabamba Coffee Farm – Llactapata
After breakfast, visit a local coffee farm to learn about the region’s coffee and sample some. Then, hike for 2.5 hours along the Inca trail to Llactapata, where you’ll have a stunning view of Machu Picchu. Enjoy the sunset and stargazing before a delicious dinner at the campsite.
Day 4: Llactapata Lookout – Waterfalls at Hidroelectrica – Mandor – Aguas Calientes
The day starts with a 2-hour descent to the Hydroelectric Station, followed by a visit to the Intiwatana sundial rock. After lunch, hike alongside train tracks to Aguas Calientes. Once there, relax with a hot shower and optional visit to the hot springs (not included). Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 5: Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco
Start early to catch one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu for a sunrise view (weather permitting). Explore the main sectors of the citadel with your guide, or hike Huayna Picchu (book in advance for an additional cost). Afterward, return to Aguas Calientes for the train ride back to Cusco, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.
