RAINBOW MOUNTAIN TOUR
General Information
Head to the high Andes for a scenic hike to Rainbow Mountain, where vibrant mineral-rich slopes create a natural spectacle unlike anywhere else in Peru. This is the perfect excursion for adventurous travelers looking to experience the raw beauty and altitude of the Andean landscape.
You will be picked up early from your hotel and driven south toward the Cusipata District in the province of Quispicanchi. Along the way, there will be a brief stop in town to purchase any last minute supplies such as water, snacks, or energy drinks.
As the journey continues, the scenery gradually changes, revealing snow capped peaks, colorful agricultural fields, and native Andean animals including llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas scattered across the landscape.
The first main stop is the village of Chirihuani, where you will enjoy a warm Andean breakfast. After breakfast, you will continue by vehicle to the starting point of the hike.
The trail passes through striking highland scenery and takes approximately one and a half hours. The route climbs gradually toward the Red Valley, a unique landscape known for its intense natural colors and unusual rock formations. As you hike, the changing light highlights different shades across the surrounding mountains.
Upon reaching the summit at approximately 5,200 meters above sea level, you will have time to enjoy panoramic views, take photos, and appreciate the quiet atmosphere of this remarkable landscape.
After time at the viewpoint, you will descend along the same trail and return by vehicle to a nearby town, where a buffet lunch will be served. After relaxing and enjoying the meal, you will travel back to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon.

Trek Advisory
Please note that the Rainbow Mountain trek is a challenging hike and is not recommended for individuals over 60 years old or those with poor physical condition. The trail reaches extremely high altitudes, which can be strenuous, especially for those not accustomed to high-altitude environments. It is important to be aware of the potential effects of altitude sickness, and we strongly recommend consulting a doctor before embarking on the trek.
Additionally, the trek is suitable for those aged 10 years and above, with the physical ability to handle the demands of the hike. Participants should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions, which may lead to limited visibility, especially at higher altitudes. It’s crucial to bring appropriate clothing and gear for cold, windy, and potentially rainy conditions.
For your safety and enjoyment, please ensure that you are physically prepared and equipped to handle the challenges of this high-altitude trek.
